To
PDF or not to PDF!
A
PDF (Portable Document Format)
is a good way to transport a
pre-assembled brochure file to
your printer. Layout, colours
and text will remain exactly
as you see it on a calibrated
monitor.
It
is a quick way to turn around
a print job. However, the main
reason for this is your
printer does not need to do
anything - you have done all
the hard work for him. He
simply needs to press P for
print and send you an invoice.
That's why a lot of printers
insist you submit your data in
PDF
format.

The
drawbacks
In
addition to your knowledge of
the property market and all
aspects of the estate agent
business, you will also need
the extensive knowledge and
skill of an experienced
graphic artist in order to
produce quality brochures. If
the quality is poor you may
loose an instruction. Vendors
prefer agents who offer a
better brochure.
When
submitting a PDF, you will
need to look very carefully at
how your monitor is
configured. Your PDF may look
great when viewed on your
computer screen, but unless
your monitor has been
calibrated to emulate print on
paper, especially when using
Pantone colours, you may find
that your printed brochures
look nowhere near the expected
quality.
We
prefer raw file data
Whist
we often do brochures from PDF
files, we prefer to receive
photos direct from your camera
along with the file you
created when you wrote the
particulars. This gives us
better control over quality
standards, an issue we are
very sensitive to. Instead of
checking images for sharpness
and correct light levels, and
setting font sizes to make
text fit into predefined
spaces, you can get on with
your job of selling
property.
